Women's Mid-Layers

Fleece, thermal tops, half-zips and merino wool

Women's mid-layers — fleece, thermal and merino

The mid-layer is the heat engine of your three-layer system: it traps warm air while letting the moisture from your base layer escape. Fleece jackets and pullovers, thermal half-zips, merino wool and lightly insulated models — find women's mid-layers at Soccer Sport Fitness from Brooks, Champion, Columbia, Saucony and Smartwool.

Fleece jackets and pullovers

Warm, light and breathable, fleece dries fast and handles moisture well. A half-zip fleece wears on its own in mid-season or under a shell in cold weather; a full-length fleece adds warmth for the city and the outdoors.

Thermal tops and half-zips

Technical waffle-knit or brushed fabrics that hold in warmth without the weight. A half-zip lets you regulate your temperature during effort — ideal for cool-weather running and training.

Merino wool

Naturally warm, breathable and odour-resistant, merino wool regulates temperature and stays comfortable even when damp. Smartwool specializes in merino for running and the outdoors.

How to choose

  • Cool-weather running: a breathable thermal half-zip.
  • Deep cold: a thick fleece under a shell.
  • Odour-resistant, long outings: a merino wool layer.
  • City, lifestyle: a cozy fleece to wear on its own.

Our brands

Brooks and Saucony for running, Columbia for the outdoors, Smartwool for merino, Champion for training. Wear it over a base layer and under our jackets and windbreakers or our winter jackets.

What is a mid-layer?

In the three-layer system, it's the middle layer: it traps warm air to insulate you while letting through the moisture your base layer wicks away. Fleece, thermal or merino.

Fleece or merino wool?

Fleece is very warm for its weight, dries fast and costs less; merino regulates temperature better, resists odours and stays comfortable even damp, but dries more slowly.

Why a half-zip?

A half-zip lets you regulate temperature during effort: open it to vent on climbs or when you heat up, close it at rest. Handy for cool-weather running.

How do I layer?

A moisture-wicking base layer against the skin, an insulating mid-layer over it, then a waterproof or wind-blocking shell as needed.

How do I choose my size?

Check the size chart specific to each brand. For a mid-layer, aim for a comfortable fit over your base layer, without being too loose.
