Indoor Futsal Soccer Balls

Reduced bounce for indoor soccer, sizes 3 and 4

Futsal and indoor soccer balls

The futsal ball is defined by its reduced bounce (low bounce): heavier for its size and less lively off the floor, it stays controllable on the hard surfaces of a gym. That's what makes indoor play technical rather than chaotic.

Why a reduced bounce?

On a gym floor, a regular ball would bounce endlessly and become impossible to control. The futsal ball has a bladder and weighting designed to dampen the bounce, keeping the ball on the ground and rewarding short passing, sole-of-the-foot control and tight dribbling.

What size for futsal?

Futsal is generally played with a size 4 low-bounce ball for adults and teens. Younger age groups use size 3. Note: a futsal size 4 is heavier than a field size 4 — that's normal and intentional.

Futsal ball or indoor soccer ball?

An official futsal ball has a bounce controlled to precise standards. Some balls sold as “indoor” are simply soccer balls adapted to the gym, with no reduced bounce. If your league plays futsal, get a true low-bounce ball — the difference in control shows up in the first few touches.

Surface and durability

Gym floors are less abrasive than asphalt, but the ball takes plenty of strikes against walls and boards. A tough casing and solid seams make the difference over a full season.

What's the difference between a futsal ball and a so-called indoor ball?

An official futsal ball has a bounce controlled to precise standards. Some balls sold as indoor are simply soccer balls adapted to the gym, with no reduced bounce. If your league plays futsal, get a true low-bounce ball.

Can you use a futsal ball outdoors?

It isn't ideal. Its reduced bounce and surface are made for the gym, and asphalt will wear it out quickly. For outdoor play on hard surfaces, a street soccer ball is far better suited.

Is a futsal ball right for indoor soccer on turf?

If the indoor field is synthetic turf rather than a hard floor, a regular field ball is usually a better fit. The reduced bounce is designed for hard surfaces. Check what surface your league uses.

What pressure should a futsal ball be inflated to?

Go by the marking near the valve. Futsal balls are generally inflated to a lower pressure than field balls, which is part of what creates the reduced bounce.
