AG or TT: what's the difference?
The AG (artificial ground) outsole has shorter, more numerous studs than an FG outsole. The result: pressure spreads across the whole sole of the foot instead of concentrating on a few points, which reduces fatigue and stress on the knees.
The turf (TT) outsole is covered in small rubber nubs. It targets older synthetic fields, short-pile surfaces and hard ground. It's also a good option for outdoor winter training.
Why not just play in FG?
Long studs on turf wear out much faster: the fibres don't give the way soil does, so the stud scrapes instead of penetrating. Grip becomes unpredictable, and the foot can stick during a pivot — a recognized factor in knee and ankle twists.
FG/AG models
Several brands offer hybrid FG/AG outsoles built to work properly on both surfaces. If you alternate between natural grass and turf from one week to the next, that's the most economical solution.
What wears a pair out on turf
Turf heats up and abrades. Rinse your shoes after games to remove rubber crumb, let them air-dry, and avoid walking on the parking lot asphalt in them — that's often where studs round off fastest.
