Men's trail running shoes

Lugs, Gore-Tex and protection — Salomon, Saucony, Brooks, Inov-8

Trail Running Shoes for Men

A trail shoe is made for rough terrain: lugs for grip, protection against rocks and roots, and often a waterproof membrane. The right choice depends on terrain, distance and weather. Here you'll find 90+ men's models — Salomon, Saucony, Brooks, Inov-8, Mizuno.

Which lugs for which terrain?

Deep, spaced lugs (Salomon Speedcross) for mud and soft ground; medium, versatile lugs (Saucony Peregrine, Brooks Cascadia) for mixed trails; lower-profile lugs for buffed paths and road-to-trail mixes.

Waterproof or not?

A Gore-Tex membrane keeps feet dry in mud and slush but breathes less in the heat. For summer and stream crossings, a draining mesh dries faster.

Protection and hold

For weak ankles, look for good lateral hold, a wrapping upper and a rock plate underfoot. Quick lacing and a toe bumper add comfort on technical terrain.

How do I choose trail running shoes?

By terrain (mud vs buffed paths), distance and weather. Deep lugs for soft ground, more protection for technical trails, a waterproof membrane for wet conditions.

Can you run on the road with trail shoes?

For short stretches, yes, but the lugs wear quickly on asphalt and the cushioning is less comfortable. For a lot of road, choose a road shoe or a hybrid model.

Which trail shoe for a weak ankle?

Look for good lateral hold, a wrapping upper and a rock plate underfoot. A moderate drop also helps stability on rough terrain.

Do I need waterproof (Gore-Tex) trail shoes?

Useful for mud, wet snow and cold. In heat or for stream crossings, a fast-drying draining mesh is preferable.

How many km does a trail shoe last?

Often 500 to 800 km depending on terrain. Abrasive, rocky trails wear the lugs faster than soft paths.
