By playing surface

FG for natural grass, AG or TT for synthetic, IT for the gym. Many adult players keep two pairs: cleats for the outdoor season and futsal shoes for the winter league. An FG/AG model covers both outdoor surfaces if you alternate.

By style of play

The lines split into three families. Speed: ultralight upper and reactive plate, for wingers and forwards who live on runs in behind. Control: textured surface that grips the ball, for midfielders who dictate play. Comfort: generous fit and soft touch, for those who prioritize feel and durability. Leather or synthetic

Leather stretches and moulds to the foot: often the better choice if you have a wide foot or if comfort comes first. Synthetic is lighter, dries fast and holds its shape — a real advantage on abrasive synthetic turf.

Your size

Aim for about 5 mm of room in front of the big toe, measure both feet at the end of the day and always try them on with your soccer socks. Fit varies a lot from brand to brand — some run narrow, others wider. Our size guide gives the conversions.

Which line should I choose for my position?

A full season for a regular player on natural grass, often less on turf. Replace them when the studs round off, the upper splits, or the heel starts to rock.
