Smartwool - Merino wool clothing, socks and accessories

Merino wool socks, base layers and t-shirts

Smartwool — merino wool comfort

Smartwool specializes in socks, base layers and accessories made from merino wool, a fine, soft natural fibre from the merino sheep. It wicks moisture as vapour, keeps you dry, resists odour and regulates temperature — warm in winter, cool in summer. That's what makes it a staple for outdoor activity and running.

Merino wool socks

Smartwool's flagship. Merino socks keep the foot dry, prevent blisters and resist odour even after long outings. Available in different weights (from light cut to hiking cut) and heights, for running, hiking, skiing or every day.

Base layers

Smartwool splits its base layers into several lines: Merino 150 (the everyday layer), Intraknit (comfort and performance), Merino Sport (the highest-performance range) and Merino 250 (the warmest, for deep cold). For layering, Smartwool recommends a second layer also in merino, so it doesn't block sweat from escaping.

Smartloft insulation

For mid layers, the Smartloft and Smartloft-X lines combine technical insulation (from 60 g lightest to 180 g warmest) with merino wool, matched to the season and the intensity of the activity.

T-shirts, beanies and accessories

The line extends to merino t-shirts (perfect for travel without odour), beanies, gloves and accessories — merino comfort for everyday and training alike.

Why merino wool?

Unlike traditional wool, merino doesn't itch: its fine fibre is soft against the skin. It regulates temperature, wicks moisture and neutralizes odour naturally — you can wear the same piece several days without a problem. A natural, renewable, high-performance fibre.

What is merino wool?

It's a fine, soft natural fibre from the merino sheep. It wicks moisture as vapour, keeps you dry, resists odour and regulates temperature — warm in winter, cool in summer. It's Smartwool's specialty.

Are Smartwool socks worth it?

For many runners and outdoor enthusiasts, yes: merino keeps the foot dry, prevents blisters and resists odour even after long outings. Well cared for, the socks last a long time.

Does merino wool itch?

No. Unlike traditional wool, merino fibre is very fine and soft against the skin. That's what lets you wear it next to the skin, even as a t-shirt or base layer.

How do I choose my Smartwool base layer?

Merino 150 for everyday, Intraknit for comfort and performance, Merino Sport for maximum performance, and Merino 250 for deep cold. Choose by the intensity of the activity and the temperature.

Can you wear merino in summer?

Yes. Merino regulates temperature both ways: warm in winter and cool in summer by wicking sweat. Lightweight models (150 and t-shirts) are perfect for the warm season.

How do I wash a Smartwool garment?

Most merino items machine-wash in cold water on a delicate cycle, and dry flat or on low heat. Avoid fabric softener and hot water. Follow the product's care label.
