Kids' soccer shoes: choosing well
Our kids' soccer shoes cover every age and every surface — from a toddler's first cleat to junior models for teens in competitive leagues. The main challenge: finding the right size for a fast-growing foot without compromising safety.
Sizing: the one-centimetre rule
Leave about 1 cm (a thumb's width) between the big toe and the end of the shoe. That's enough for a few months of growth without hurting ball control.
Resist the temptation to go two sizes up “to make them last”: an oversized shoe slips, destabilizes the ankle and raises the risk of injury. Measure both feet at the end of the day, go with the larger one, and always try them on with real soccer socks — their thickness changes the fit. Our full guide walks through the method: how to choose kids' soccer cleats.
Which surface for your child?
Moulded cleats (FG) for natural grass, an artificial grass (AG) or turf (TT) outsole for synthetic, and a flat non-marking (IT) sole for indoor soccer in winter — often required by gym leagues. If your child plays on both outdoor surfaces, a versatile FG/AG model saves you from buying two pairs.
Why moulded cleats
For a child, moulded cleats are the right call in almost every case: lighter, safer, maintenance-free and considerably cheaper. Favour a soft synthetic upper that's easy to clean, and a simple closure — velcro or elastic laces for younger kids who get dressed on their own.
When to replace
Beyond the size becoming too small, watch for rounded studs, an upper split at the toes, red marks on the foot after play, or a heel that rocks. A quick trick: press on the toe of the shoe to feel where the big toe ends. If it's already touching, it's time to go up a size.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are children's soccer shoes available in different widths?
Are children's soccer shoes available in different widths?
No, the children's soccer shoes we offer are not available in different widths.
However, Puma Future shoes are known for their wider toe box, offering a better fit for children with wider feet.
Similarly, Umbro shoes are also designed with a more generous width, ensuring comfort for young players with wider feet.
Are children's soccer shoes the same size as running shoes?
Are children's soccer shoes the same size as running shoes?
In general, a child will wear the same size soccer shoes as running shoes.
However, as with running shoes, sizes may differ from one brand to another. It's important to measure your child's feet carefully and consult the sizing guide on the product page.
Soccer shoes are often designed to fit more snugly to maximize ball control. We recommend choosing shoes that provide a maximum of 1 centimeter of space at the toe so that your child can be comfortable and avoids blisters caused by friction.
